- NAS Report Adds Heat to Warming Debate
- May 20, 2010

By Bill Polits
On Wednesday, May 19, the National Academy of Sciences, responding to a 2008 congressional request, issued a report entitled America's Climate Choices, in three parts:
- Advancing the Science of Climate Change
- Limiting the Magnitude of Climate Change
- Adapting to the Impacts of Climate Change
The NAS dubs the report "... an unprecedented study to lay the scientific foundation for taking action in response to climate change." The reports conclude that, "A strong, credible body of scientific evidence shows that climate change is occurring, is caused largely by human activities, and poses significant risks for a broad range of human and natural systems...."
With the American Power Act slated to be acted upon by the Senate by the summer, the reports add fuel to the fire of proponents of the legislation which would limit the production of HFCs used in clean agent fire suppression.
